Second Place Award Recipients - 2003

98 North Main Street
Mati and Rick Bush

Here is the story of a Sleeping Beauty kissed by the Prince, Rick Bush, whose vision and extraordinary efforts brought this long-neglected 1928 Colonial Revival home to glowing new life! The restoration encompassed the surrounding property as well as the house itself. Dozens of overgrown trees and shrubs were removed and replanting flowed; a circular brick driveway (providing safer access to the heavily trafficked street) was constructed to match the original brick walkway; roofing materials, rotting wood, shutters, porch columns, brick-work and gutters were restored. The final touch was a refreshing yellow and green color scheme. The jurors remarked that this is the third-award winning site in the past three years where owners of homes on busy streets have greatly enhanced the neighborhood through their commitment to historic preservation. West Hartford salutes the savior of this prominent property.
