The West Hartford Town Plan & Zoning Commission has begun an eight-month process to update the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, a document that spans 2008-2018 guiding town leaders on decisions regarding land use. The first public meeting will be held November 20, 2007 at 7 PM at Town Hall, Room 400. The next meetings will be held at 7 PM in the same location on January 16, 2008, March 26, 2008, and May 14, 2008. Click here for a list of subcommittee meetings.
The Planning & Zoning Office has three primary functions. Click on the links for zoning laws, permit applications, informational guides and more:
Plan Review & Permitting: The Planning Office reviews all planned development requiring site plan approval, special use permits, wetland permits, zoning permits, lot splits, subdivisions, special development approvals and building permits that may include building expansions or change of use.
Zoning Enforcement: The Zoning Office enforces the zoning code of the Town of West Hartford and staffs and administers the actions of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Administrative Support to Commissions: The Planning and Zoning Division provides administrative support to the Town Plan and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission, the Design Review Advisory Board, the Conservation and Environment Commission, and the Economic Development. These Council-appointed commissions approve subdivisions, special-use permits, wetlands permits and advises the Town Council on zoning changes.
Town Plan and Zoning (TPZ) meetings are typically held on the first Monday of each month and at 7:00 PM. All matters brought before the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) require a public hearing. Applications must be filed with the Planning & Zoning Office no later than 19 days before the date of the hearing. ZBA usually meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, with a recess in August.If there is a change in the scheduled meeting date it will appear in the West Hartford News and The Hartford Courant.
