Service Suspension

The suspension of service will occur for violent, disruptive, or illegal behavior and may occur for excessive cancellations and no-shows. The process is as follows:

After the first offense, the driver will file an incident report with the operations manager. The manager of the Dial-A-Ride program at the Town of West Hartford will be notified of the incident. The Town's representative will investigate the incident and contact the rider and/or the rider's guardian or case worker to inform them of the possible suspension of service resulting from the rider's behavior. At first, a warning will be issued verbally. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident, a written warning may also be issued. Where circumstances warrant, the Town may direct that service be suspended after the first offense, until such time as the suspended rider can demonstrate that he/she no longer represents a safety concern for the service.

If there is a second offense, the Town's representative will inform the individual that service will be suspended for a 30 day period. With each additional offense, the term of suspension will increase by 30 days.

An appeal of a decision to suspend service can be made at any time during the suspension term. The appeal will be reviewed by the Town's Director of Human Services.
