Donations Needed for West Hartford's Emergency Food Pantry The Town of West Hartford is seeking donations for its emergency food pantry. Items donated to the Town's food pantry are given away to low-income residents in need of emergency food assistance. People who want to make individual donations of non-perishable food may drop off their items in the main lobby of Town Hall, located at 50 South Main Street. Town Hall is open to the public between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Groups interested in organizing a food drive to help the West Hartford's emergency food bank should call Linda Hanson in the Town's Social Services office at (860) 561-7567. Food items most needed right now are canned fruit (not lite), small 8 ounce boxes of rice, Spaghetti-O's (or similar product) and corned beef hash. A complete list of non-perishable food items distributed by the food pantry year-round to West Hartford residents in need of emergency food assistance follows: tuna fish, mayonnaise, tuna helper, boxed cereals of all kinds, corned beef hash, canned beef stew, spaghetti sauce, canned spaghetti O's, pastas, macaroni and cheese, canned soups with meat, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, rice, baked beans, canned juice concentrate. Geriatric Social Workers for the Town also report a need for low sodium and low sugar items for elderly clients. The pantry also provides toiletry items, laundry detergent, house cleaning products, toilet paper and paper towels to people in need. These items are in especially short supply and are urgently needed. Anyone interested in making a financial donation to help the Town purchase needed food items may send a check, made payable to the "Town that Cares Fund", Division of Social Services, Room 306, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107. These contributions are tax-deductible. |
