West Hartford Volunteer Services

Medical Escort Transportation - transportation is provided to medical appointments for elderly residents unable to use the Dial-A-Ride program or public transportation. Volunteers escort residents and remain with them through the duration of the appointment.

Telephone Reassurance - volunteers provide a vital link to the frail elderly, through daily and weekly phone conversations.

Telephone Reception - volunteers provide support to our busy Social Services Office by greeting clients and answering incoming phone calls and questions.

Special Projects for which you can volunteer include: after school homework project, birthday program, data processing support, food pantry support, gardening projects, holiday party activities, life review - oral history, office projects, program coordination, food drives, special community events, conversational English, knitting and writing groups. Opportunities exist for designing your own role.

People interested in volunteering for any of these programs must be reliable and provide their own transportation. To sign up or get more information call the Town of West Hartford's volunteer services office at (860) 561-7567 or 561-7574. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
