Alcoholic
Beverages
The
use of alcoholic beverages must be in compliance with State laws and
must be approved by the Town of West Hartford.
Sale
of Liquor
According to Section 30-35 of the Connecticut State Code, a temporary
liquor permit is necessary when the function includes the sale of alcoholic
beverages. The word "sale" is defined to include selling a ticket to
a function where alcohol will be offered. Temporary liquor permits can
be obtained from the Department of Liquor Control, State Office Building,
Hartford, Connecticut. A copy of the temporary liquor permit must be
submitted to the Elmwood Community Center office at least ten business
days prior to the event.
Non-Sale
of Liquor
A temporary liquor permit is not required when alcoholic beverages are
provided to guests at no charge, as with an "open bar."
Town
Applications
If you wish to have alcoholic beverages at your function, you must request
permission from the Town of West Hartford by filling out an application
when booking your event. The application will be reviewed by the Director
of Leisure Services, the Chief of Police and the Town Manager. Notice
of approval or rejection would be provided to you within two weeks of
application.
Insurance
The Town of West Hartford requires an insurance policy for all functions
where alcoholic beverages will be served. The policy may be purchased
through the town ("Special Event Insurance"), or you can obtain a rider
on your own insurance policy, naming the Town of West Hartford as an
additional insured. Proof of the rider must be provided to the Elmwood
Community Center office no later than ten business days prior to your
event.
