WEST HARTFORD CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION - 2008
(Updated January 28, 2008)

The annual Christmas tree collection by the Public Works Department officially began on Monday, January 7th in the Monday refuse collection area.  The collection will proceed from the Monday refuse collection area into the Tuesday refuse collection area, then into the Wednesday refuse collection area and so on until crews make two complete passes of the Town.  The first round of collection is complete in all refuse collection areas and the second round of collection is now complete in the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday refuse collection areas.  Crews have now moved into the Thursday and Friday refuse collection areas. Residents in the Thursday and Friday refuse collection areas should now get their trees to the curb for collection. This will be your last opportunity for a curbside collection of your Christmas tree.  The Christmas Tree Collection Line (570-3714), the Town website and WHC-TV will report progress on the Christmas tree collection as it progress or whenever operations are suspended due to snow or adverse weather conditions.

Residents are reminded that these trees are ground and recycled into wood chips.  Therefore, please remove any plastic bags, ornaments, lights or stands from your tree before you place it at the curb.  These items are not recyclable and present a safety hazard to both equipment and personnel.  Trees contaminated with these items will not be collected.  Please help us during snowstorms by removing your tree from the side of the road.  During snowstorms, the trees at the side of the road often become buried and frozen into the snow, making collection of them difficult if not impossible.

Residents may also bring their trees to the town Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Street from Monday through Friday, between 7:30 am and 4 pm.  Unfortunately, there are no weekend hours at the Recycling Center until April.

Please call the Department of Public Works at 561-8100 if you have any questions.

Thank you.
