Absentee Ballots for the November election are now available at the Town Clerk’s office, 3rd Floor, Town Hall, 50 South Main Street.  Those eligible for an absentee ballot include:  Military Personnel; residents who will be out of town November 4th; those unable to get to the polls due to illness or physical disability; anyone whose religious beliefs forbid them from voting on Election Day; and anyone who is working at a polling place other than their own voting district.  Ballots are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 – 4:30, Tuesday from 7:30 – 4:30; and Thursday 8:30 – 7:00.  For more information, call 860-561-7430.

We are always looking for future poll workers. Be a part of the election and the democratic process. To be eligible, you must be a registered voter in West Hartford. Training will be held in various sessions during the year. Please call the above numbers for more information.

West Hartford Voters Guide
The League of Women Voters of Greater Hartford has published a West Hartford Voters Guide for many years and distributed it through local newspapers.  This year the League is entering into the 21st Century and the Voters Guide can be found on the League’s website, lwvgh.org after October 4th  The Guide contains answers to a number of pertinent  questions which have been asked of the candidates for 5th District State Senate, as well as the 18th, 19th and 20th District State House of Representatives.  For individuals without internet access,  copies may be found at all West Hartford Libraries, Town Hall, Elmwood Community Center and Bishop Corner Senior Center.

Voter Registration Requirements
Any citizen 18 years of age may register to vote and enroll in a party at the Registrars of Voters Office in Town Hall. All voters must be 18 years of age on election day in order to vote. West Hartford residents should visit the Registrars of Voters Office in Room 209 in Town Hall to register to vote, call to request a mail-in application or download and print a Voter Registration (en Español) form.

In the State of Connecticut, if you are registered as Unaffiliated/Independent, you cannot vote in a party primary election. In order to vote, you must be registered in the party that is holding the primary.

Change in Voter Registration Information
If you change your name, address or party enrollment, you must complete a new voter registration form and fill in blanks 1a through 12 and send form to: Registrar of Voters, 50 South Main St., Room 209, West Hartford, CT 06107. We must have an original signature (not a fax). You may obtain this form by clicking on the link or calling 561-7451 or coming into our office.

The Presidential Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Please report to your usual polling location. Polls are open from 6 AM to 8 PM.

Absentee Ballots
Registered voters who are ill, physically disabled, serving in the military, out of town on election day or whose religion forbids secular activity on election day may apply to vote using an absentee ballot. Those providing service as a poll worker in polling places other than their own are also eligible.

The issuance of an absentee ballot is a two-step process. You may obtain an application at the Registrar of Voter’s Office or download and print an Absentee Ballot (en Español) application form. Once your application is processed by the Registrar of Voters' Office, it goes to the Town Clerk's Office and you will receive your ballot in the mail from the Town Clerk's Office. In order to receive an absentee ballot, you must have completed an application each time for every primary, referendum or election.
