The Capital Classics Shakespeare Festival presents
Hamlet and a curtain teaser comedy, The Seductive Countess

Playing three weekends, July 10-27 on the grounds of Saint Joseph College

Capital Classics Theatre Company returns to the campus of Saint Joseph College in West Hartford to stage its annual outdoor Shakespeare Festival. Now in its 18th season, the company presents Shakespeare’s intricate tragedy, Hamlet, preceded by a Moliere curtain-teaser comedy, The Seductive Countess. The family-oriented production, presented in collaboration with Saint Joseph College, will play on the lawn of The Carol Autorino Center (rain location: the adjacent Hoffman Auditorium). Featuring the talents of CT-based professional and student actors, The Festival delivers affordable, accessible and entertaining classical theater. Audience members are invited to bring picnics, blankets, lawn chairs and friends! The Capital Classics Shakespeare Festival is appropriate for all ages. Jewish Family Services and Local Attorneys Help Local Holocaust Survivors;
Germany Offers Ghetto Work Payments For World War II Victims
Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford, a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, and local volunteer attorneys are teaming up to help elderly Holocaust survivors whose World War II experiences may qualify them to receive one-time special "Ghetto Work Payments". The Greater Hartford Jewish community is rallying to locate and help them claim the money before the clock runs out. The special payments of 2,000 Euros (approximately $3,000 US)are a 'humanitarian gesture' by the German Government. A free day-long legal clinic for survivors who may be eligible for the "German Ghetto Work Payment Program" will be held by appointment only on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Jewish Family Services, Zachs Campus, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

This summer St. James's Episcopal Church will host its 5th summer program:
Aslan Is On the Move!

This program is based on C.S. Lewis's fantasy story, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and explores the deep power of faith and belief. By using imagination and play children have an opportunity to explore issues of faith and commitment all in a fun format involving knights, dwarves, and witches. The award winning curriculum is supported by a staff of committed adults, high school and middle school students. The program is open to children entering first through sixth grade. St. James's Episcopal Church is located at 1018 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford center.

Preschool children and their parents and siblings are welcome to join the IsraelMites, a preschool Jewish story hour, at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. The sessions will be held on four Mondays in July, July 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 10 a.m. Stories, crafts, and snacks are included in the program. It is free and open to the community. Readers Theater Performance: "The Price" at Bishops Corner Library
Come and watch the Readers Theater Group, a troupe of area actors from local community theaters, in their final West Hartford performance this season. Arthur Miller's play, "The Price," is about estranged brothers who meet after their father's death to dispose of his property. It doesn't take long for a lifetime of accusations and misunderstanding to take center stage.

The performance will be held on Monday, July 14, and it begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the senior center, adjacent to the Bishops Corner Library at 15 Starkel Road. No reservations necessary. Call 561-8212 for more information.

UL Safety Tour at The Children’s Museum, West Hartford, CT, 11am – 4:00 pm
With a fun and interactive mobile safety vehicle, the UL Safety Tour will help you and your family stay safe at home and in the workplace. Author Talk at the Noah Webster Library: For the Love of Animals
Professor Kathryn Shevelow will discuss her new book, "For the Love of Animals: The Rise of the Animal Protection Movement," Henry Holt and Company. This program will take place at the main library, 20 S. Main St., on Tuesday, July 15, at 7:00 p.m.

A respected eighteenth-century scholar gives us the dramatic story of the bold reformers who braved attacks because they sympathized with the plight of creatures everywhere. More than just a history, this is an eye-opening exploration into how our feelings toward animals reveal our ideas about ourselves, God, mercy, and nature. Accessible and lively, "For the Love of Animals" is a captivating cultural narrative that takes us into the lives of animals - and into the minds of humans - during some of history's most fascinating times.

Adult Book Group discusses "Too Close to the Falls" at Noah Webster Library
The main library's Adult Book Group will meet on Tuesday, July 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Noah Webster Library, 20 South Main in West Hartford Center, to discuss "Too Close to the Falls," a memoir of childhood in a small town in upstate New York, by Catherine Gildiner.

Mark your calendars for September 15, when we will begin our new series, World War II in Fiction, with a discussion of "The Secret of Santa Vittoria" by Robert Crichton.

The Adult Book Group meets on the third Tuesday of the month, September-July, from 1:30 - 2:30 pm in the Board Room of the Noah Webster (Main) Library. The West Hartford Public Library validates parking for those who use the Isham Road garage.

Bubbles Galore at
The Children’s Museum from 11am – 4:00 pm
Hundreds and hundreds of bubbles will be released from our bubble machine. Chase them, pop them, and stomp on them! Experiment with big and small wands, and even dino wands. Blow your own bubbles through a straw and top it off with a beautiful bubble print.

Each Wednesday, from 11 am – 4 pm, the Museum features unique science activities for the whole family. Registration is not needed. Free with paid admission.

Blue Back Square in West Hartford Center continues its music series called "A Little Wednesday Night Music" every Wednesday night through August. The events are part of Blue Back Square in West Hartford Center's unique experience - featuring something for everyone to enjoy.

The First Church of Christ Congregational, West Hartford, announces the schedule of its annual summer carillon series for 2008:

July 17 - First Church Carillonneurs
Concerts will be held on Thursdays through July 31. The concerts are free, open to the public and will begin at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and may bring a chair or blanket and sit on the south lawn of the church, on the lawn of the public library next door, across the street on the Town Green or in Blue Back Square. Tours of the carillon and an opportunity to meet the carillonneur follow the performance. The “Up ‘n Comers” is a highly talented group of teenagers from Greater Hartford, who will be performing live this summer at the Park Road Playhouse. The inaugural summer production is Rowan & Martins Laugh-In. Directed by Emily Genser, English teacher at Conard High School, the company will incorporate on-stage, backstage, technical and artistic writing positions.
