Measure your energy consumption: Ten Kill-A-Watt meters are now available for loan at the circulation desks of each of the three libraries. Help take control of your energy choices by learning how much electricity your appliances are actually using. Simply connect appliances and devices you use to the Kill-A-Watt meter and plug the meter into the wall, and it will assess how much power those appliances consume. This meter can calculate actual electrical expenses and forecast by the day, week, month, even an entire year! The monitors were donated by the West Hartford Clean Energy Task Force.

Pre-paid Parking Access Cards are now available: The Municipal Parking office has instituted a prepaid parking card which serves as a cashless, paperless method to access any of the municipal parking facilities in West Hartford Center. Here’s how it works. An account is created and 40 hours of parking is credited to the card. Parking fees are deducted upon each use. When the account reaches a minimum balance of $7 or less, an additional 40 hours of parking will be automatically reloaded and paid by credit card. For more information, visit http://www.westhartford.org/parking

A section of the multi-purpose walkway paved: A new 1500-foot section of the walking/biking trail was paved recently. This portion of the walkway connects with the existing trail north of the Boulevard under the bridge, around Norfeldt Baseball Field, along the brook to the pedestrian bridge on Park Road. The new path is 8 feet wide. The Trout Brook walkway now extends from Farmington Ave. at Trout Brook Drive to the Park Road pedestrian bridge, about 3,000 feet. Combined with a return walk along Raymond Road, you have a very pleasant one mile walk!
