Spring Paving Scheduled Announced

The Town of West Hartford will begin its first round of street paving on May 12 with Spring Lane. From May 13 to May 15, Park Road from I-84 to South Main Street will be milled and then paved. Motorists should use alterate routes during that week. Paving will continue later in May with Brightwood Lane, Winthrop Road and Colonial Street.

Town-Wide Traffic Signal Improvements begin in May, run to August 2009
(State Project Nos. 155-160 and 155-161)

he Town of West Hartford in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Transportation plans to replace existing traffic signal equipment at 32 intersections over the course of two years.

The first project, which includes 18 intersections (see list below), will begin in May 2008 and will take 15 months to complete. Crews are tentatively scheduled to start at the intersections of Farmington Avenue and North/South Main Street and North Main Street and Brace Road.

The second project, which includes 14 intersections, will start in August 2008 and should be completed around November 2009.

The contractor will perform all work during the day (Monday-Friday) most likely between 8:30 and 3:30 to avoid the morning and evening peak hour traffic with limited disruption and inconvenience to the community.

The existing traffic signal equipment is approximately 25 years old and in need of replacement.  Cities and towns throughout the world are upgrading traffic signals to Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) due to energy savings and increased visibility by motorists and pedestrians.

The signals will be town owned and maintained. The project is 100% federally funded.  The Town pays the contractor up front then gets reimbursement through the Connecticut Department of Transportation.  The State has offered this program to other municipalities in the State.
