West Hartford has eight (8) solar photovoltaic projects installed and another one (1) underway. Together, the 8 installed projects total 276.5 KW and produce about 345,000 kWh of electricity a year. This solar electricity generation helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 238 metric tons of CO2, or the equivalent of 46.6 passenger vehicles. (Source: U.S EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator)
The electricity produced by some of these solar arrays helps the Town meet its annual clean energy commitments.

Bristow Middle School - 95 KW solar photovoltaic array. Installed in December 2009, this solar array is owned and operated by Sun Edison LLC under a power purchase agreement (PPA). It is comprised of 544 modules and generates about 120,000 kWh annually, which is equivalent to about 20% of Bristow’s annual electric use. There is a solar kiosk in the lobby of the school that provides real-time information on what the system is generating.
