Utility Data

The Town of West Hartford spends about $5 million annually on natural gas and electricity (including street lights and traffic lights). Next year (FY2012), we will also be tracking heating oil (about 5 smaller buildings) and water.

(Note: Data presented here is from the Town's utility bill tracking system and will not tie exactly to financial statements.)

Trends

 Use - FY2008 -FY2011

Total energy use for the Town of West Hartford has been up and down over the last 4 years, while total energy cost has dropped due to energy procurement strategies.

Use - FY2008 -FY2011  per Degree Day (adjusted for weather)

Even though the Town's total energy use went up in FY2011, energy use per degree day was lower than FY2010, and even slightly lower than FY2008. This is a simplified way of taking into account the affect of weather on energy use.

Benchmarking

School Energy Star Ratings

The Town of West Hartford benchmarks its schools using EnergyStar's Portfolio Manager. As of January 31, 2012, six (6) of our schools, including both our high schools, have achieved a score of 75 or better, meaning that, in terms of energy use, they are performing better than 75% of the schools nationwide. This is a significant achievement given the age of some of our buildings. Click for better image: chart pdf.
