Volunteer Services
Volunteer Services currently offers the following opportunities:
- Friendly Visitor
- Provide a homebound resident with socialization and support and enjoy making a new acquaintance from another generation.
-
- Grocery Volunteer
- While at the store, pick up groceries for someone else for whom shopping has become a difficult task, and help that person remain at home independently.
-
- Medical Escort
- Whenever you have some free time, take an older resident who can no longer drive to a local medical appointment. You'll be glad you did.
-
- Telephone Reassurance
- Once per week, volunteers contact Human Services clients who are homebound elderly and/or disabled and offer support, reassurance and conversation. They decrease the feelings of isolation felt by many homebound individuals and are able to alert staff if an issue or concern with the client arises.
-
- Food Pantry
- Help us keep pantry shelves stocked by organizing a food drive or working in the pantry. The food you collect, donate or sort in the pantry will make a considerable difference in your community.
- Tutoring
- Help children in grades K-8 after school in the homework center or work one-on-one with adults - all at the Hillcrest Area Neighborhood Outreach Center.
-
- Conversational English Group
- Volunteers meet for 1 hour each week with adults who do not speak English. Volunteers lead the group into conversation about current events or TV shows and facilitate activities such as reading short passages from books, or conducting creative writing exercises.
-
- Community Service
- Students in school or church programs and other individuals are often required to perform a specific amount of community service. The Volunteer Services Coordinators try to accommodate their needs and timelines. Students may do a special project in the Human and Leisure Services office, develop and carry out a food drive or help tutor a child.
-
- Seasonal and One Time Volunteer Opportunities
- Volunteer Services offers seasonal and one-time volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to give back to the community but whose schedules do not allow them to make a weekly commitment. Opportunities can include, but are not limited to, various holiday events, occasional office projects, collaborative community events with other organizations and food drives.
