Property Tax Exemptions

  • According to Connecticut State Statute §12-81c, any town in Connecticut may adopt a local ordinance for tax exempt status for ambulance-type vehicles.  In 1984 the Town of West Hartford adopted such ordinance for any ambulance-type vehicle (not for hire) for the sole use of transporting a medically incapacitated individual, any ambulance-type vehicle owned by a person with disabilities or parent or guardian of such person and/or any ambulance-type motor vehicle specially equipped for purposes of adapting its use to the disability of a veteran.  Please see ambulance-type vehicle definitions and ambulance-type vehicle exemption application if you think you may be eligible for this exemption.
  • Connecticut State Statute §12-81 states that certain types of properties "...shall be exempt from taxation...".  The use of these properties vary from educational or charitable purposes to religious houses of worship and hospitals.  To qualify for tax exempt status from the Town of West Hartford, a quadrennial application must be submitted to and approved by the West Hartford Board of Assessors.  Please see quadrennial application instructions for the checklist of items that should be submitted to the Board.
