Bike West Hartford, Inc., Conard High School "Kids Helping Kids" Club, Miracle League of Connecticut, West Hartford Bicycle Advisory Committee and West Hartford Human & Leisure Services are in partnership to bring the iCan Bike program to West Hartford this summer.
The mission of iCan Bike to teach children with special needs (age 8 and above) to ride conventional two wheel bicycles and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement creates a gateway of opportunity, helping these new riders gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.
The program's special equipment typically enables program participants to master the skill in less than a week's time, and within days of learning to ride, many children exhibit other independent behaviors for the first time ever. In addition to the thrill of riding a regular bicycle, many new riders experience an increase in self esteem and self confidence, a positive change in family dynamics, and improved quality of life through recreation.
iCan Bike program will be held at Conard High School, 110 Beechwood Road, July 29 - August 2, 2013. Sessions are 1.25 hours daily. For more information please contact Sara Tamborello, Camp Director at 860-888-7643.
