Lose The Training Wheels
Conard High School "Kids Helping Kids" Club and West Hartford Human & Leisure Services are in partnership to bring the Lose The Training Wheels program to West Hartford this summer.
The mission of Lose The Training Wheels is to teach children with special needs (age 8 to 18) to ride conventional two wheel bicycles and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement creates a gateway of opportunity, helping these new riders gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.
The program's special equipment typically enables program participants to master the skill in less than a week's time, and within days of learning to ride, many children exhibit other independent behaviors for the first time ever. In addition to the thrill of riding a regular bicycle, many new riders experience an increase in self esteem and self confidence, a positive change in family dynamics, and improved quality of life through recreation.
Lose The Training Wheels will be held at Hall High School, 975 North Main Street July 23 - 27, 2012. Sessions are 1.25 hours daily.
