Parks & Pools
West Hartford has five neighborhood parks conveniently located throughout town. Designed for the recreational enjoyment of people of all ages, the parks have playground apparatus, picnic tables, wading pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, athletic fields and restrooms. There are no grills available. You may bring your own charcoal grill - but please, clean up carefully afterwards. (Gas grills are not allowed.)
Four of the five parks also feature full-sized outdoor swimming pools. Summer pool programs include recreational and adult lap swims, and lessons for swimmers of all skill levels. The pools operate on a fee basis, and are open to the public from the end of June through late August.
The parks also offer a wide range of aquatic activities that are free for children up to age eight. Wolcott Park has a splash pad; Kennedy Park has both a splash pad and a slide pool; and Beachland Park has a wading pool. (For full information on the outdoor pools, including all swimming lessons, see the Leisure Services Spring Summer Program Guide, available each spring.)
The parks are available for rental, making them popular places for individuals to hold meetings, parties, sports events and other functions. For information on permits, please click here.
The town offers short term and long term field permits for organizations to use town fields and parks. A completed permit must be sent to the Leisure Services Manger for approval.
The 2012 Outdoor Aquatics information is now available. Please check out the swim lesson schedule!
