The West Hartford Police Department has a long standing tradition of exemplary performance demonstrated by police officers and civilian personnel in the course of their duties. The Police Department also recognizes citizens that have acted unselfishly by assisting the police department or fellow citizens in some way. Each year, these dedicated professionals and civilians are recognized for their integrity and civic duty at an awards ceremony in May.
The West Hartford Police Department will be holding their Annual Award Ceremony on Friday May 17, 2013 at 8:00am in the Town Council Chambers. Below is a list of this year's recipients. Please join us as we honor the brave and talented men and women of this department and the public who have assisted us in the performance of our duties.
Departmental Citation
Officer Thomas Lazure Officer Ryan Riley
- On June 6, 2012, Officer Lazure watches a car exit I-84 with bullet holes. The driver of the car quickly explains that he has been the victim of a drive by shooting in Hartford. Officer Lazure gets a description of the assailants out and the car is located by Officer Ryan Riley. The occupants are taken into custody. Heroin and a stolen handgun were located in the car. Officer Andrew Teeter
- On August 12, 2012 the D’Angelo’s Restaurant was the victim of an armed robbery. Officer Teeter located the suspect vehicle and arrested those responsible for the robber. (1200037122)
Officer Jeremiah Gagnon
- On March 6, 2013, Officer Gagnon stopped a car for a motor vehicle violation. Subsequently discovered a large amount of marijuana and a loaded .38 caliber revolver. $450 in cash seized. (1300010749)

- On October 27, 2013, Officer Gagnon stopped a car for a motor vehicle violation and subsequently discovered heroin and illegal steroids. (1200049789)
Officer Dominic Creaco
- On October 4, 2012, Officer Dominic Creaco was working a private detail when he was alerted by drivers of a possible road rage incident. Officer Creaco was able to stop the car and ultimately 5.2 grams of rock Heroin were recovered. The driver of the van struck Officer Creaco significantly injuring him. (1200046005)
Officer Sean Walmsley
- October 19, 2012, Officer Walmsley saw a car driving in the Sears parking lot that matched the description of a car used in a shoplifting on the previous day. He was able to stop the car and subsequently located heroin, marijuana, cocaine and morphine. He also discovered a large amount of stolen items in the vehicle along with bootleg DVD’s. Officer Walmsley also discovered a black ski mask, pistol shaped cigarette and clothing all matching the description of items worn by a robbery suspect in a July bank robbery in West Hartford. That case is still ongoing. (1200048394)
Detective Gino Giansanti Detective Brian Hill
- March 30, 2013 the Solid Gold Jewelry Store was robbed by three men. During the course of the robbery a shot was fired into the ceiling. Detective Giansanti and Detective Hill were able to take into custody one of the suspects after a foot pursuit and violent struggle. (1300014643)

- On May 3, 2012 the West Hartford Police Department received a report of a United States Postal Carrier being robbed. The officers were able to locate him, apprehend him after he fled on foot and were able to get an admission from him. (1200019760)

- While on patrol Officer John Begin observed a drug transaction taking place. He was able to arrest the buyer. Subsequently the buyer agreed to cooperate in an investigation to identify the dealer. Members of the Special Investigations Division and Community Interaction Team began working the case. The case expanded into New Britain and into Hartford in which multiple search warrants and arrests were made. (1300003869)

- March 30, 2013 the Solid Gold Jewelry Store was robbed by three men. The above listed members took an active part in that investigation which led to the arrest of all principals involved. They conducted several surveillances and served multiple search warrants. They were able to obtain several confessions. (1300014643)

- While walking on North Main Street heard screaming. Investigated further and found an active domestic. Was able to flag down an officer and get the victim aid. (1300011389)

- Assisted and identified the individual responsible for tagging around St. Brigit School. (1200011468)
Andrew Siegel
- Mr. Siegel was walking his dog when he observed someone breaking into his neighbors cars. He challenged the male who fled. He quickly alerted the police department and officers were able to apprehend the suspect who had broken into multiple cars in the neighborhood. (1200056869)
