SWAT, Special Weapons and Tactics Team
This highly trained unit is responsible for responding to high threat situations that may require measures far beyond the standard equipment and training capabilities of department personnel.
To become a SWAT member, officers must undergo extensive additional training in the use of sophisticated firearms and the utilization of advanced technological equipment including thermal imaging and night vision devices. They are trained in the use of force, as well as squad formations and timed entry techniques, and are skilled in crowd control and crisis negotiation. To maintain their membership on the team, officers are required to train two days each month and must test quarterly for fitness and firearm certification.
