Sorry, the MDC cannot collect the following materials, but that doesn't mean you should keep them around the house. If you're not sure if we take an item, call us at 860-278-3809. If we don't take it, we'll try to help you dispose of it elsewhere.

- Car Batteries*
- Cement
- Creosote coated railroad ties
- Electronics
- Empty containers of any kind
- Explosives
- Freon
- Ice melt
- Latex paint
- Marine flares
- Medical waste including needles and syringes
- Medicines
- Smoke detectors
- Tires
- Used oil* & oil filters
Note:
*These items are collected by some host towns during their household hazardous waste collections. Contact the town's Public Works Dept. to find out if these items will be collected a a particular event.
^The MDC accepts small business (CESQG) waste as its collections BY APPOINTMENT. Companies must call tech HazWaste Hotline to see if they qualify and to request a small business information package. business waste can only be accepted if all program requirements are met. No exceptions!
