Telephone Book Recycling

The telephone books may now be placed in the recycle barrel.

The average phone book weighs 3 pounds and there are over 20,000 residential properties receiving multiple versions of these books. Proper recycling of phone books facilitates a second generation of products and can save the Town of West Hartford upwards of $10,000 annually in waste disposal fees if kept out of the waste stream.

What do you do with the old phone book?

• Recycle your old phone book, don't throw it away!

You can opt out of delivery of the Yellow Books that you currently receive.

YellowpagesOptOut.com, a consumer choice program that the Local Search Association and the Association of Directory Publishers has launched, provides an easy and secure option for Connecticut residents to control the number of yellow pages telephone directories they receive or stop directory delivery entirely. It is the only industry-approved online site where consumers can connect directly with phone book publishers to share information about their delivery choices. If those directories are just collecting dust, you may want to just say no to yellow."
