Why Paid Parking?
Most people subscribe to the notion that parking is free. In reality, parking is not free. If we are not paying for parking as motorists, we are paying as consumers in the form of higher prices, investors in lower returns, workers in less compensation and taxpayers in rising levies.
West Hartford Municipal Parking is a self-supported enterprise fund that does not rely on the basis of local taxpayers. On the contrary, Municipal Parking supports the public interest by funding a number of improvement initiatives in West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square on an on-going basis:
Provides clean, affordable and available parking spaces for motorists to park near their destination
Sponsors snow removal to clear the streets by taking snow away
Pays for the electricity that powers street lights and Webster Walk
Delivers on-going maintenance and beautification to the area throughout the seasons
Retains walking Police presence for additional security measures
For-profit businesses solely focus on the bottom line. As a non-profit, public service entity, Municipal Parking is here to support West Hartford economic and public interests.
