West Hartford selects Delamar team to develop hotel
WEST HARTFORD SELECTS DELAMAR TEAM TO DEVELOP BLUE BACK SQUARE HOTEL
Seasoned Hospitality Team Brings Successful Luxury Brand to an Ideal Location
Ron Van Winkle, Town Manager of West Hartford, announced today that the Town has selected Delamar West Hartford, LLC to be the developer for the Central Business District Hotel slated for 90 Raymond Road. “The Town has now accepted and signed a letter of intent to move forward with this Developer,” Van Winkle added. This decision marks the conclusion of a carefully managed RFP process, which began in June, 2012.
Delamar West Hartford is a joint venture of Greenwich Hospitality Corp. of Greenwich, CT, which operates a number of hotels in Connecticut, including the Delamar Greenwich Harbor Hotel and the Delamar Southport, and The Matos Group, LLC, a real estate development firm based in East Hartford, CT.
Mr. Van Winkle observed that the Town had received a number of strong, very thoughtful proposals from qualified hotel developers, but in the end the Town believed that the proposal submitted by Delamar West Hartford best met the objectives and aspirations of the Town. “We were very impressed by the Delamar team, the luxury boutique hotel they envisioned, and their proven success in towns very like West Hartford,” said Van Winkle.
Charles Mallory of Greenwich Hospitality commented, “We are thrilled and humbled by this expression of confidence in our brand and hotels. West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square are excellent examples of what can be achieved when government and community work together for a bright future. We are thankful for this opportunity to join the West Hartford Community.”
The Delamar West Hartford will offer between 100-120 rooms and suites, and every amenity you would expect from a full service luxury hotel. The hotel will include a restaurant, lounge and bar, indoor and outdoor event space, meeting rooms and a ballroom, a business center and a fitness center. The Delamar brand is known for a dedication to exceptional quality in every aspect of the guest experience, and the hotels continue to earn awards and satisfied guests as a result. Among other accolades, the Delamar Greenwich Harbor landed on the 2012 and 2013 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Hotels list as just one of two Connecticut hotels.
Dan Matos of The Matos Group added “The West Hartford Community has for some time known that a luxury hotel was needed in the Center. Few communities in Connecticut can attract the kind of hotels Charles Mallory and his team are so noted for and I am pleased to have helped in a small way to bring the Town and Delamar together. This is a great day for all of us.”
Mr. Van Winkle noted that from here the Developer will complete its due diligence and then prepare submissions to the Town Council and other commissions and boards of the Town for necessary regulatory approvals, hopefully by the Spring.
