The 2010 Spring Yard Waste Collection program will begin on Monday, May 3, 2010 in the Monday refuse collection area and continuing for two weeks through Friday, May 14th. Residents should place their yard waste at the curb by 6:00 AM on their regular refuse collection day. During the two week collection each household will have two opportunities to place yard waste at the curb for collection. Only recyclable paper 30-gallon leaf bags and bundled branches and twigs will be collected. Bundled material must be tied only with organic twine , string or rope. Bundles tied with wire will not be collected. Bundled branches cannot be more than 4 inches in diameter, over 4 feet in length and bundles should not weigh more than 60 lbs.
Yard waste includes leaves, pine needles, pine cones, acorns, twigs, small branches, dead plant matter from last year’s annuals and perennials and thatch. It does not include: soil, rocks, branches over 4 inches in diameter or grass clippings. Yard waste bags contaminated with these items will not be collected. There is no restriction to the number of bags a resident may place at the curb.
Residents can bring plastic bags with yard waste to the Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Street, and empty the contents out in the designated area. Plastic bags are not recyclable. Dispose of them at home. From April 1 to May 31, the Recycling Center’s hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM and Saturday’s from 8 AM until 2 pm. From June 1 through mid-October, the hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM and Saturdays from 8 AM until 12 pm.
