General Requirements for the Elderly/Disabled Homeowners Program

Homeowners, 65 years and older, who meet specific guidelines, may be eligible for property tax relief.  Below are the general requirements for the program. Please contact the Assessment Office at 860-561-7414 with any questions you may have.

Age Requirement: 65 years of age as of December 31, 2007
Application Period: February 1 - May 16, 2008
Maximum Income Allowed: Single: $29,800 Married: $36,300
Information Needed: Date of Birth and Social Security Numbers for Applicants; Proof of ALL income for 2007 (taxable or not taxable)
Benefit: Works on a sliding scale:
Minimum of $150 off taxes
Maximum of $1,250 off taxes

Elderly Homeowner Program Checklist

The state requires proof of all income. Please submit the following when applying for the Elderly Homeowner Program:

  • A copy of the 1099 form from Social Security
  • A copy of a COMPLETE Income Tax Return for 2007 including ALL schedules
  • If no Income Tax Return was filed, submit copies of ALL 1099 forms
  • Copies of receipts for Rental Income, if applicable W-2 forms, if applicable
  • W-2 forms, if applicable
