The
American Legion, Department of Connecticut Awards Committee,
selected the West Hartford Fire Department as the recipient
of the "Fire Department of the Year" award
which was presented to Chief Austin at their 88th annual Convention
held in July
2006.
The
Award is awarded annually to a volunteer, call or paid Fire
Department
of any town or city

in
the State that, while in the pursuit of their profession and
by exceptional performance of duty, brings
credit to their Department and community for performance
in the
field of public safety, children and youth, community awareness
projects and participation in patriotic observances.
