Awards
Chief's
Medal of Valor* - awarded to a member of the Department
who, in the intelligent performance of his/her duty, and at
grave and imminent personal danger performs an act which is
so laudable in itself as to merit such praise.
Chief's
Medal of Heroism* - awarded to a member of the Department
who, in the intelligent performance of his/her duty, and at
grave and imminent personal danger, engages in successful
combat with an armed and dangerous adversary or who as a result
of this combat is so wounded as to place his/her life in jeopardy.
The
Police Cross - awarded to a sworn officer who in the intelligent
performance of his/her duty is seriously injured.
Police Distinguished Service Medal - awarded to a member
of the Department who in the intelligent performance of his/her
duty and at personal danger, apprehends or through his/her
actions causes to be apprehended a dangerous felon.
Departmental
Citation - awarded to a member of the Department who through
his/her own initiative and diligence, apprehends or through
his/her actions causes to be apprehended a felon who might
otherwise go undetected.
Police Merit Award - awarded to a member of the Department
upon commission of intelligent and valuable police service
which demonstrates a special faithfulness or devotion to duty.
The Police Merit Award will be issued for acts of valor or
service to the West Hartford Police Department.
Unit Citation - awarded to individual sworn or civilian
members of a unit who exhibited exceptional professional skill
and conduct during a coordinated action.
