Sedgwick Road & South Main Street Intersection: This project is progressing well. All utilities have been moved except AT&T which is expected soon. New curbs will be installed the week of June 29 on the widening portion of the road project. Then the pavement markings and poles will be removed and the remaining curbs will be installed on the narrowing portion.  Milling and paving of the new intersection is planned for mid-August. The Town has been able to do this $2 million project for about $300,000 to $400,000.  The roadway is currently painted with the new design to give people a feel of how the new intersection will be when completed.

Summer drainage improvements: Four drainage projects are slated for this summer. They are, in order:

  • At the intersection of Mohawk and Mohegan, improvements have begun on replacing 600 feet of new drainage pipe that had collapsed. Work will take about 3 weeks to complete.
  • Next, a new drainage pipe will be installed on Newport Avenue to assist with flooding problems in that area.
  • Then, at the intersection of Ledyard Road and North Steele Road, a larger capacity drainage pipe will be installed.
  • Lastly, at the intersection of Asylum Avenue and Trout Brook Drive, 600 feet of new pipe will replace a collapsed, rusted metal pipe.

Cliffmore Road Sanitary Sewer Project: The MDC has been installing new sanitary sewers on Cliffmore Road and is scheduled to be done by July 15th. The Town has asked the MDC to transfer the funds it would have used to patch the affected area and will allocate that money toward repaving the entire length of the road. The town will allow some time for the settlement of trenches and plans to mill and pave the road later this fall.

CNG improvements: Connecticut Natural Gas Co. is in the process of upgrading its 1920 cast-iron gas lines with plastic pipes on five streets, thereby improving service to the homes with high-pressure lines that are more reliable. Work is now complete on Linnard Road and Edgemere Avenue. Improvements on Westland Avenue and Van Buren Avenue will start in August. Arundel Avenue is under design by CNG with work scheduled to begin in the fall.
